If you were coming a little furthet north to Huntsville, I'd meet you for a cup, Deb. As it is, it looks like you are using the I-40 route. I've made that trip to LA years ago. I think they've improved most of I-40 in Arkansas, but for a while it was a bumpy road. There's also a new connector in New Mexico that makes the drive toward Albuquerque a bit nicer. This may be old news to you if you've been out lately.

When you are east of Amarillo, you'll see the slanting water tower. Closer to town, look for the Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the 72-ounce sirloin (free if you can eat it all in one sitting). If you are a vegetarian, try to back away slowly without making any sudden movements.

Past Amarillo be watching for the Cadillac Ranch on the left, a bunch of Caddies buried nose-down.

Remember to keep an eye on the weather out there. Bon voyage and safe travels.

If you were any further north..I'd put you up, give you some excellent chow, and a pretty good pot of Joe.
And that offer is good for any and all Tweediots.
A couple of you guys know that already.

"LUBBOCK, Texas — Heavy snow and freezing rain over parts of West Texas downed tree limbs and power lines as driving turned treacherous in the Panhandle and south Plains on Thursday.

Meanwhile, strong thunderstorms moved through North Texas, causing some roof damage.

Classes were canceled at midday Thursday at Texas Tech University in Lubbock due to the winter weather. National Weather Service meteorologist Justin Weaver said the storm could generate up to 8 inches of snow in counties northwest of Lubbock.

The storm in Lubbock began as rain early Thursday before conditions turned colder and sleet started to fall.

The Texas Department of Transportation closed Interstate 40 Thursday night from the Texas-Oklahoma border to the New Mexico state line because of packed snow and ice from the storm.

The department also closed U.S. 87 and U.S. 287 from Amarillo north and U.S. 54 from the Texas-Oklahoma border to the New Mexico line after about 13 inches of snow accumulated in the northern Panhandle by nightfall.

Up to a quarter-inch of ice accumulated on tree limbs and power lines in parts of the Panhandle.

Many flights in and out of Lubbock and Amarillo airports were canceled. American Eagle on Thursday afternoon canceled all flights at Wichita Falls Municipal Airport."

Im planning on taking I-75 to Atlanta then from there driving through Birmingham and conecting with 240 / 40 in Memphis. I will then take 40 west to Bakersfield then shoot north on I-5.
