Quick answer is no, Tweed. It's a very pretty and interesting area, people are friendly. We travel to the capital, Hanoi, in a day or so, I believe we may find a blues outfit or 2 there.

When I served there, there were some Vietnamese bands that played the hell out of Ventures and other surf stuff. Somewhere I've got photos of the GI band I played in there, with copies of Fender guitars and amps built in a shop in Cholon, the Chinese sector of Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City).

Have a good trip--a guy I served with is over there now teaching English and other courses at a college, and really likes the people.

The Phillipino bands were there when I was there, too, and they were phenomenal. They covered just about every kind of American music and did it well, from classic rock 'n roll to British invasion, etc. It was amazing to hear the vocals--they would do very difficult pieces like the Beach Boy's "Good Vibrations."

In a huge coincidence, one of the musicians from one of the two top Phillipino bands there in my time settled here in Huntsville years ago, still playing full time.
